 Following the final episode of the first season ("House of Luthor"), where we thought we saw Lex Luthor plunge to his death after leaping from his balcony, list members debated whether Lex had survived. He did, of course, and returned in the second season episode titled "The Phoenix." Listmembers posed a number of creative theories as to how Lex might have survived the fall. "The Phoenix" didn't bother to explain it, but in an interview on America On Line, John ("Lex Luthor") Shea offered his own theory:

"At the end of last season, Lex took a back dive off the Lexcorp building, fell ten stories onto a lower balcony where an airbag had been inflated by Nigel and other henchmen he hit that airbag and as Lex landed, they threw another body off the balcony, another human being dressed like Lex who hit the ground and turned into a pepperoni pizza. That body was then stolen from the morgue. Lex meanwhile, on the upper floors, hit the airbag, bounced off and suffered a head wound that put him in a coma. He was rushed to this underground hospital, and administered to until he comes back to consciousness in this upcoming episode."
