The LOISCLA list generates a tremendous volume of messages every day. The following are tips from our beloved list owner (Tara O'Shea) for dealing with the volume (think of it as tips for the care and feeding of the Listserv and your mailbox):

If you are on a commercial service that charges you for mail to and from the Internet, you may want to consider setting yourself to DIGEST option. With the digests, you only get one to three digests a day, that include all the posts from that 24 hour period. Easier to download, easier to reply to lots of stuff at once.

To set yourself to DIGEST, send mail to listserv@vm.ege.edu.tr with SET LOISCLA DIGEST as the body of the message (the subject doesn't matter, the listserv ignored is. However, you need to edit out .sigs, etc, as those it will try to read as commands).

Also, if you are going away for a week, or have exams coming up, or somesuch, and don't want to leave the list, you can set yourself to NOMAIL. On nomail, you are still subscribed to the mailing list, you just don't get any mail from the period you are set to nomail. However, you can still post to the list (if you need a digest from some day, or want to ask a question).

To set yourself to NOMAIL, send mail to listserv@vm.ege.edu.tr with SET LOISCLA NOMAIL as the text. Then, when you wish to return to the list, and get mail again, send SET LOISCLA MAIL or SET LOISCLA DIGEST depending on which option you prefer.

Also, if you would rather receive a copy of your own message, rather than the acknowledgement from the listserv (those "your post was successfully delivered to etc") (or if you would like both) you can change this by sending to the above address SET LOISCLA REPRO and to turn off the ack function, SET LOISCLA NOACK and last, but not least, if you wish to remain incognito (i.e., your name and address do not appear in the Loiscla List, which you can get by sending REV LOISCLA to the listserv, and your name won't appear in the who line of your messages, but owner-loiscla will instead) you can set yourself to CONCEAL by sending SET LOISCLA CONCEAL to the listserv.
