LOISCLA subscribers come to expect almost ridiculous amounts of mail on a daily basis. Not receiving a pile of mail is, well, unusual. From time to time, TREARN (the server in Turkey--yes, Turkey--that runs the list) goes down, cutting us off. Long time listmembers have come to expect these burps. When it happens, the almost inevitable response is for a bunch of people to send messages to the list asking if the list is "down." Resist the temptation to send such a message. Think about it--if the list is down, who will see your message?

If you really need an answer, do the following instead: Send a mail message with the text QUERY LOISCLA to listserv@vm.ege.edu.tr. The server will then send you a confirmation notice telling you what options you are operating with: MAIL/DIGEST/NOMAIL, ACK/NOACK, etc. If you receive this notice and everything looks fine (or you get no reply at all), then chances are that the list is down. Then you just sit tight until the list comes back. If you get a reply that says you aren't subscribed to this list, then you simply re-subscribe and reset your options as they were originally. You may continue to post to the list, but you won't see any posts until the list is fixed.

Your fellow listmembers will appreciate not having a dozen "is the list down?" messages in their mailboxes, and you will avoid looking like a newbie.
