Can't help loathing that man of mine
Like the proverbial lover tied to a chair and forced to watch, Lois, dressed in her sexless serious girlfriend garb, observed Superman, the world's greatest hero and not incidentally her fiancé, making out with Lori Lemaris high above Metropolis. Adding insult to injury, Lori was dressed in Lois' own clothing. Probably a holdover ensemble from the days when Lois was permitted to dress occasionally in a sexy manner.
Superman, neither stopping nor resisting Lori's lips, suddenly decreed that it "never happened" and that since no one saw them doing what "never happened," no harm was done. Also, it was Lori, not Clark, who mentioned his love for Lois. This was one of many examples of how unflattering Superman's depiction had become during this era.
"Whose conscience with injustice is corrupted"
Poor Clark. Okay, so he hadn't been spending much time with Lois and maybe he did make-out with his ex-girlfriend and did spend hour after precious hour arm-wrestling Captain Marvel, but is that any reason for Lois to feel hurt and believe that she's way down on Clark's list of priorities?
Then there was also Lois having "silly" feelings of jealousy regarding Lori Lemaris. Why would she? Just because Lori was an ex-girlfriend Clark proposed to, but didn't tell Lois about? Just because Lori dressed seductively and kissed Clark as if she had no moral boundaries or respect for Lois? How silly can you get?
Lois poured her heart out to Clark one last time, but as illustrated, it was an exercise in futility. As Lois stated, she had put Clark above everything else in her life, including her job and family, but Clark couldn't even put the joy of arm-wrestling aside for Lois. It had become a very one-sided love affair. Lois had finally had enough.
Next stop, lots of irony and laughably bad melodrama . Next
