| In 1986 Superman was
revamped and re-launched. He was no longer disguised as
Clark Kent, rather, Clark Kent was the real person and
Superman the disguise he used when someone needed his
help. In fact, Superman might not have debuted at all since Clark was fairly content to help people surreptitiously. However, that all changed when Clark was forced to save an imperiled space plane in broad daylight in front of dozens of witnesses. The most curious witness, of course, was Lois Lane. |
| Lois wanted to question
the stranger she dubbed the "mysterious
superman", but as a crowd of onlookers drew near,
Clark flew away. He related his encounter with Lois to
his parents, and said he felt a spark pass between them. Clark would return to Metropolis, but wearing the famous blue and red costume and sporting the name Lois had given him -- Superman. |

While a lot of new lore was introduced, the old chestnut of Clark scooping Lois on the Superman exclusive to get a job at the Daily Planet was recycled. However, considering Lois nearly killed herself trying to get that story, Clark's approach seemed lazy and cavalier rather than resourceful. |
| The rivalry between Lois
and Clark was set in place and a friendship rather than
romance was started between Lois and Superman. It was a unique retelling. Lois admired Superman, but didn't fall crazy in love with him, and though Clark still wanted Lois to love him as Clark Kent, it was now a logical desire. |
